About Kathy

Kathy Lewis has always been a fighter for what is right.

She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and is the daughter of a firefighter and a homemaker. Kathy grew up surrounded by poverty and gun violence, but didn't allow this to stop her from pursuing her dreams. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts.

Kathy is a writer and motivational speaker and has served on the boards of many non-profits and organizations, including her local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club in Dade City and the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.

As a result of Kathy's daughter having a disability, Kathy has been advocating for her daughter and other families who have children with disabilities for over 20 years. When her daughter became eligible for Medicaid and other state benefits, the process of obtaining them proved difficult and disheartening. Kathy knows that thousands of families go through this in Florida, and wants to put an end to the dysfunction of our state agencies.

Kathy, her husband, and her two daughters have lived in Pasco County for nearly 10 years. She understands what the people in District 20 are going through, and wants to help make the district and the State of Florida a place where everyone can thrive.
